New Cut to the Chase
Here’s a little newer version of the animation I’m working on. Trying out a bit of “security” footage look on it.
Perseverance
OK, I have to confess, I’m in a bit of funk. I don’t know what it is, but I’m going through a rough patch. Not “serious” really, but crappy enough I guess. I’m having a hard time with time management (as in I’m not making nearly enough time to do the things I need to do!) and motivation (as in not enough to force me to make time!). This weekend was a perfect example. I had a few things to do, one of them being that I had to put together a “progress reel” of the stuff I’ve made following the Animation Mentor method. I had planned on revising some things that I thought could use a little work. I had planned on doing it on Sunday, when I knew I had time to do it. Saturday was shot. We celebrated my wife’s birthday at my Mom’s and that pretty much took all day. So Sunday it was. Well, I slept in, procrastinated and then, about 2 or 3 in the afternoon I thought, alright, enough! Then I realized that it was so hot in my apartment, I couldn’t concentrate and I started feeling sick. I got a headache and I thought, OK I’ll wait it out. Another couple of hours went by and I had done nothing. I tried to stay cool. Drank lots of water, had the A/C going, but it was still HOT! By now I’m stressing cause I feel like I’m a failure. I feel like I don’t deserve the chance to become a character animator because I don’t apply myself like I should. Blah, blah… blah, blah. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
So this morning, I’m reading my emails and I run across an email that tells the story of a blind man who hiked the Appalachian Trail all by himself. He had a guide dog, but essentially it was just him. And it mentioned that it wasn’t easy for him. He fell many times and even broke a rib. He went through many a pair of hiking boots and walking sticks, but after a while he made it. A legally blind man had hiked the Appalachian Trail solo. So what does this mean? Well, for me it means that if I’m that blind man and character animation is my Appalachian Trail, what I’m going through is probably a “fall.” I think that somewhere, somehow I thought that I was just going to breeze through this and make it easily and quickly. But now I realize that it’s not just the destination that matters, but the journey.
I think this journey is going to take me a little while. And I realize that I’m going to get discouraged along the way. But I have to remember that it is just part of the journey; an obstacle that I’m must climb over. The key is to not stop! I will fall, I will stumble and I will run out of breath… but I can’t stop. The day I stop is the day I fail.
Obstacle Course Animation
Here’s my final obstacle course animation.
Wordpress 2.5
Hooray, my friends!
This blog/website is officially running on WP 2.5. If you haven’t checked out wordpress yet, do yourself a favor and do so right now, WordPress.
One of the reasons why I decided to build my website in “blog” style is that it allows me to be a bit more interactive with it, I think, than if I had designed a “look” and have to RE-design it or tweak it when I needed to interact with it. With the blog style, you just post. That’s it. Post a post, post a new page, link, etc. It’s that simple. You can even post by email. What do you think? How do you do it?
Healthy fast food?
I found this cool website that helps you find local restaurants and what healthy eating alternative they might offer. I don’t know about you, but I thought it was helpful. Check it out, Healthy Dining.
Oh, snap!
So this weekend I decided to do a little spring cleaning of my dreamhost account (this is my ISP). I have gone through a couple of website names (furryimages.com, studiosamurai.com, antiguaproductions.com) and attempts in the past and there was a lot of crap from those websites still lingering around. SoI decided I was going to get rid of old directories, databases, whatever. And I did just that. However, I managed to unintentionally break the connection between my wordpress engine and my database; translated, it means my website was broken. Oh snap! Thankfully, however, I enlisted the help of my buddy Daniel, and he was able to get my site back up and running again. There are some glitches however. I had to re-install wordpress and before we did that, we threw away the old wordpress folder which contained plug in files (such as the QT player plug in) and the uploads directory. Therefore, some of my old posts now have broken links to images and/or movies. Unless I can find them, I won’t be able to relink that media. So if you run into that issue, now you know why that is.
